TEHRAN, May 5: Narges Mohammadi is in critical condition after suffering two cardiac episodes in prison that went untreated, her lawyer said, warning that her life is at risk due to medical neglect.

Speaking from Paris, Chirinne Ardakani said Mohammadi has now been hospitalized in a cardiac intensive care unit, accusing Iranian authorities of deliberately endangering her health.

She described what she called the Islamic Republic’s “relentless pursuit” of Mohammadi as a broader tactic to instill fear among civilians.

“War crushes everything,” Ardakani said, arguing that global focus on geopolitical tensions has overshadowed the plight of political prisoners and the wider struggle of Iranians for self-determination.

Mohammadi, a prominent human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, has long been imprisoned for her activism, drawing widespread international concern over her treatment and conditions in detention.
