TEHRAN, May 25: Iran has executed a protester accused of involvement in armed actions during nationwide unrest earlier this year, according to a report published Monday by the judiciary’s official news outlet, Mizan News.
The report said Abbas Akbari Feyzabadi was convicted on multiple charges, including “enmity against God” (moharebeh) and collusion to commit crimes against internal security linked to protests held in January in the central province of Isfahan.
Authorities alleged that Feyzabadi acted as an armed leader during demonstrations on January 8 and 9. The judiciary claimed he participated in an attack on the governor’s office in the city of Naein and fired a handgun toward security personnel.
According to the report, Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence before it was carried out.
Iranian authorities have continued to pursue arrests, prosecutions and executions related to anti-government protests and unrest across the country.
