Iranian Regime Executes Three as Human Rights Warn of Surge in Political Killings

TEHRAN, May 4: Iranian state media reported that three men were executed early Monday morning, accused of involvement in unrest in the northeastern city of Mashhad and in what authorities described as an Israel-linked plot.

The report identified the men as Mehdi Rasouli and Mohammadreza Miri, whom officials labeled as “Mossad elements” allegedly involved in a purported coup attempt in January 2026. A third man, Ebrahim Dolatabadi, was described as a key figure in unrest in the Tabarsi area of Mashhad.

According to state media, Rasouli and Miri played a “direct role” in the killing of a member of Iran’s security forces during the events. Dolatabadi was accused of leading groups involved in clashes that reportedly resulted in additional fatalities.

Human rights organizations have raised concerns over a surge in executions, stating that at least 25 political prisoners have been put to death since the start of U.S.-Israeli strikes on February 28.
