TEHRAN, May 4: Iran has denied having any “pre-planned programme” to target oil facilities in the United Arab Emirates, according to Iranian state television, following accusations from Abu Dhabi over a drone strike on an energy installation in Fujairah.
The authorities in the United Arab Emirates said the strike at the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone injured three Indian nationals, who were taken to the hospital for treatment. The UAE also reported a fresh wave of attacks it described as a “dangerous escalation,” despite a declared ceasefire in the wider regional conflict.
In a statement broadcast on Iranian state media, an Iranian military official said the Islamic Republic had no prior intention to attack oil facilities. He instead blamed what he called “US military adventurism” and claimed recent incidents were linked to efforts to secure passage for vessels through restricted areas of the Strait of Hormuz. The official added that the United States should be held accountable for the situation.
The statement comes amid rising tensions in the Gulf, with ongoing accusations and counter-claims over responsibility for recent maritime and aerial incidents affecting regional security and global shipping routes.
