TEHRAN, July 27: Iran on Monday warned Bulgaria that it would be held responsible for allowing a US Air Force refueling aircraft to operate from a military base on its territory, accusing Sofia of potentially becoming involved in American and Israeli military operations against Iran.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Bulgarian decision-makers must answer for what Tehran described as a “dangerous and unjustified” decision that could make the country an accomplice in attacks against Iran. “Bulgarian decision-makers must be held accountable for this unjustified and dangerous decision, which could effectively reduce their country to the role of an accomplice,” Baghaei said. The Iranian official also alleged that Bulgaria had previously permitted US aircraft linked to operations against Iran to use Sofia Airport, further increasing tensions between Tehran and Sofia.
