Iranian Regime Confirms Strikes on Iranian Kurdish Opposition Positions in Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah

TEHRAN, Jun 8: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed that it carried out strikes targeting positions belonging to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah province, in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region.

The announcement came hours after Al Arabiya reported drone attacks on bases allegedly used by Iranian Kurdish armed groups in northern Iraq. According to the IRGC, the operations were aimed at facilities linked to opposition factions it accuses of posing security threats to Iran and conducting cross-border activities.

The latest strikes mark another escalation in a series of cross-border operations conducted by the IRGC over the past three months. Iranian authorities have repeatedly accused Kurdish opposition groups based in northern Iraq of supporting unrest and launching attacks inside Iranian territory.

There was no immediate independent confirmation of the extent of damage or casualties resulting from the strikes, and Iraqi authorities in the Kurdistan Region have not yet issued a detailed statement on the incident.

The development adds to ongoing regional tensions involving Iran and armed groups operating along its borders, particularly in northern Iraq, where security operations have intensified in recent months.
