MUSCAT, Jun 25: The Iranian regime's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked a Singapore-flagged cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman, damaging its bridge but causing no casualties, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing two senior US officials.

The reported attack comes amid rising maritime tensions in the region, following a separate vessel incident near Oman that prompted the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to temporarily suspend an evacuation operation for ships in the Persian Gulf.

The IMO said several vessels had already been evacuated this week under a coordinated operation involving member states and the maritime industry. However, Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez ordered a pause to reassess safety arrangements after receiving reports of an attack on a vessel in the Gulf of Oman.

Dominguez said the vessel had passed through the Strait of Hormuz but was not operating under the IMO’s evacuation framework. He stressed that the safety of seafarers remained the priority and that the evacuation plan would remain suspended until further clarity was available.

The latest incidents have heightened concerns over shipping security in one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, where tensions have increased over maritime access and security arrangements.
