TEHRAN / MANAMA, May 17: An Iranian lawmaker has warned Bahrain against pursuing what he described as an “anti-Iran move” at the United Nations, while Bahraini authorities confirmed that the kingdom’s defence forces remain at the highest levels of readiness amid rising regional tensions.
Manouchehr Mottaki, Iran’s former foreign minister and current lawmaker, claimed that Bahrain was acting on behalf of the United States in seeking action against Tehran at the UN. He said several permanent members of the UN Security Council had advised Washington and Manama against pushing for a new resolution targeting Iran.
Mottaki warned that Bahrain could face consequences similar to what he described as previous failed efforts if it proceeded despite the warnings.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Defence Forces announced that all weapons systems and military units are on maximum defensive preparedness and combat readiness. Authorities also urged the public not to approach or touch any suspicious or unfamiliar objects that may have resulted from recent Iranian attacks.
The statement praised the high vigilance and operational readiness of Bahraini personnel, adding that the Royal Field Engineering Unit remains fully prepared to safely handle any hazardous objects to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.
