ISLAMABAD, Apr 24: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Friday for high-level talks with Pakistan’s leadership, as diplomatic efforts continue amid regional tensions and discussions on reviving ceasefire-related negotiations.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Iranian delegation was received upon arrival by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and other senior officials. The visit is expected to include meetings with Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership, focusing on the latest regional developments and broader efforts to promote peace, stability, and de-escalation in the region.

During the talks, both sides are expected to review evolving security dynamics and exchange views on diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and encouraging dialogue. The discussions come at a time of heightened regional sensitivity, with increased international attention on efforts to manage conflicts and revive stalled diplomatic processes.

Meanwhile, Iranian media reports highlighted differing narratives regarding the purpose of the visit. The IRGC-affiliated Fars News Agency reportedly urged Araghchi to cancel the Islamabad trip, arguing that its timing alongside reported US diplomatic movements could be interpreted as implicit acceptance of continued negotiations, which it described as “costly” and “pointless.” The report also referenced internal concerns over previous rounds of talks, linking them to ongoing regional hostilities.

However, the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency clarified that no negotiations with the United States are scheduled as part of Araghchi’s visit. It stated that the trip is focused solely on discussions with Pakistan regarding Iran’s positions on ending the conflict, while denying reports suggesting any direct or indirect talks with US negotiators in Islamabad.

The conflicting reports underscore ongoing political debate within Iran over diplomatic engagement, even as official channels continue regional consultations aimed at addressing security challenges and exploring pathways toward stability.
