TEHRAN, Apr 9: Multiple Iranian cities experienced pre-dawn explosions and unusual military activity early Thursday, according to witness accounts from several regions, including Karaj, Ahvaz, Shiraz, and Mahabad.
In the western Tehran province of Karaj, residents reported seeing three unidentified projectiles over the Azimiyeh district shortly before an explosion was heard at dawn. Additional blasts were later reported in the Mehrshahr area at approximately 2:28 a.m., followed by further explosions around 3:45 a.m. in both Mehrshahr and Mohammadshahr.
In the southwestern oil hub of Ahvaz, witnesses described two strong explosions occurring at 3:11 a.m. and 3:13 a.m., raising concerns among residents as the nighttime calm was abruptly disrupted.
Further north, in Mahabad in West Azerbaijan province, locals reported hearing what sounded like a fighter jet or aircraft passing overhead at around 4:30 a.m., suggesting possible aerial activity in the region.
In southern Iran, the historic city of Shiraz also reported multiple consecutive explosions at approximately 4:40 a.m., according to witnesses, though no official confirmation has yet been issued regarding the cause of the incidents.
Authorities have not yet released details on the source of the blasts or any potential damage or casualties. The incidents come amid heightened regional tensions, with residents across several provinces describing an unusually active and tense night.
