Iranian Airlines Face Sanctions, Hardline Newspaper Threatens Neighboring Airports

TEHRAN, Sept 26: Iran’s conservative Quds daily has called on Tehran to respond to restrictions imposed by neighboring countries on Iranian flights, warning that such measures could amount to an air blockade.

The newspaper, affiliated with Astan Quds Razavi, the religious foundation that administers the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad, said air corridors could be disrupted without direct military action through navigation warnings, military exercises, repeated NOTAMs and heightened flight risks.

“Reports indicate that regional airports are complying with US sanctions, which would mean the country’s air isolation for an indefinite period,” Quds wrote, according to reports.

“No act of aggression or sanction should go unanswered,” the newspaper added.

Quds said Iranian officials had previously described any blockade or restrictions imposed on the country as an act of war requiring a corresponding response.

The comments come amid growing restrictions and disruptions affecting Iranian aviation as neighboring countries impose limits on Iranian airlines and flights, citing security and airspace concerns.
