TEHRAN, May 4: Iran has issued a stark warning to the United States, saying any attempt by US forces to enter or approach the Strait of Hormuz would be met with military action, as regional tensions continue to escalate.

In a statement on Monday, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said foreign forces—particularly the US military—would be “targeted” if they moved into the vital shipping corridor. The command added that any effort by Washington to alter the current situation would further complicate security conditions and increase risks for vessels transiting the area.

Iran also asserted that safe passage through the strait must be coordinated with its armed forces, a stance likely to heighten concerns among global shipping operators relying on the route.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations warned that the maritime security threat in the region remains “critical” amid ongoing military activity. Speaking on behalf of the Joint Maritime Information Center, UKMTO advised vessels to exercise extreme caution and maintain close coordination with authorities.

Mariners have been urged to communicate with Oman via VHF Channel 16 and consider routing through Omani territorial waters south of the main traffic separation scheme, where the United States has established an enhanced security zone.
