Iran Warns of Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb Disruptions if Conflict Escalates

TEHRAN, Mar 21: Iran has warned that any military action by the United States against Kharg Island could trigger a major escalation across the region, according to a report by Tasnim News Agency citing a military source.

The source said Iran could respond with “unprecedented” measures, including potential disruption of key maritime routes such as the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea, along with further attacks on regional energy infrastructure.

The warning suggests the conflict could extend beyond the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over global energy supplies and shipping routes. The source added that any strike on Kharg Island could temporarily impact Iran’s oil production and provoke retaliatory actions, cautioning that Washington could face losses “unprecedented since World War II” if tensions escalate further.
