TEHRAN, Jun 1: Iran has asked Pakistan to continue its diplomatic efforts to help ease regional tensions and support the preservation of the ceasefire in Lebanon, according to a statement issued after talks between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
During the discussions, Araghchi voiced concern over alleged Israeli violations of the Lebanon ceasefire and reported plans for possible military operations in parts of Beirut. He praised Pakistan’s role in regional diplomacy and urged Islamabad to continue facilitating de-escalation efforts.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s concern over the situation and stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire to prevent further instability. Both sides agreed to remain in close contact as tensions persist.
The diplomatic outreach comes amid ongoing efforts to revive indirect talks between Iran and the United States. While U.S. President Donald Trump said he remained optimistic about reaching an agreement with Tehran, Iranian media reported that Tehran has suspended indirect exchanges with Washington through mediators, citing continued Israeli military actions in Lebanon and Gaza.
According to reports, Iran has conditioned the resumption of talks on an end to Israeli military operations and a withdrawal from occupied areas in Lebanon, warning that continued hostilities could trigger wider regional escalation.
