TEHRAN, Jun 13: Iran has announced funeral ceremonies for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei more than 100 days after his reported death in Israeli and US strikes, with official processions scheduled to begin in Tehran on July 4 and conclude with burial in the northeastern city of Mashhad on July 9, according to state media.
State media reported that the ceremonies, which will also include memorial events for members of his family, will be held across Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad between July 4 and July 9. The announcements were issued by the office responsible for publishing Khamenei’s works.
Khamenei’s death in February marked the end of more than three decades of leadership over the Islamic Republic, during which he served as the country’s top political and religious authority.
