Iran threatens regional energy sites if US attacks its infrastructure

TEHRAN, Jul 22: Iran’s military command has warned that regional oil, gas, electricity and economic infrastructure could be targeted if the United States carries out threats to strike Iranian bridges or power plants.

The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, warning that any vessel seeking to pass through the strategic waterway must follow designated routes and previously announced arrangements.

The command said Iran would not allow “even a single drop of oil” to be exported from the region if US threats against Iranian infrastructure were carried out, adding that further attacks could expand the conflict across the region and beyond.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also warned of a “powerful and decisive” response, saying Tehran’s defense policy was based on “eye for an eye.” He added that any aggression against Iran, including attacks on infrastructure, would trigger retaliation and that those supporting such actions could also be considered legitimate targets.

The statements came after US President Donald Trump threatened to destroy one Iranian bridge or power plant for every attack on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
