TEHRAN, Jul 9: Iran suspended passenger rail services between Tehran and Mashhad on Thursday after a US strike damaged a section of the railway line, according to state media.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways said passenger train operations on the busy Tehran–Mashhad route were halted after the attack struck part of the line earlier in the day, state broadcaster IRIB reported.
Railway authorities said technical and operational teams were immediately dispatched to the site, with reconstruction work underway to restore the damaged section as quickly as possible.
Passengers affected by the disruption will be transported by road to the northeastern city of Mashhad until rail services resume.
Earlier on Thursday, Mehr News Agency reported that the Aq Tekeh Khan Bridge in Iran's northern Golestan province had been hit by a projectile.
Separately, a US official told Axios that the US military targeted two railway bridges in northern Iran with cruise missiles during Wednesday's strikes.
The strike is the first reported US attack on Iranian transportation infrastructure since the ceasefire took effect on April 8.
