Iran Strike on Chinese Facility in Kuwait Kills Nepali Worker as Kuwait Joins Maritime Coalition

KUWAIT CITY, July 30: Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense announced Thursday that an Iranian attack targeted a facility belonging to a Chinese company in northern Kuwait, killing a Nepalese worker and causing extensive damage to the site. Ministry spokesperson Brig. Gen. Saud Al-Atwan said the relevant authorities immediately initiated response procedures and coordinated with concerned agencies following the incident. He affirmed that the Kuwaiti Armed Forces continue to perform their duties with the highest level of readiness and efficiency, taking all necessary measures to protect Kuwait’s sovereignty, security and stability while ensuring the safety of citizens and residents. The Chinese Embassy in Kuwait confirmed that the victim was a Nepalese driver working for a Kuwaiti subcontractor involved in a project operated by a Chinese company. The embassy said the worker was killed after the vehicle he was driving was struck during the attack. Expressing condolences to the victim’s family, the embassy condemned attacks targeting civilians and non-military facilities, calling on all parties to immediately halt hostilities, resume dialogue and avoid further escalation.

Gulf solidarity with Kuwait The Kingdom of Bahrain strongly condemned the Iranian attack, describing it as a violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and a threat to its security and the safety of civilians. Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed full solidarity with Kuwait and support for all measures taken to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability. It praised the efforts of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces and competent authorities in safeguarding the country’s security, while offering condolences to the family of the deceased worker. Bahrain also called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take decisive measures to ensure respect for international law and prevent further attacks against countries in the region. The UAE also condemned what it described as renewed Iranian attacks against Kuwait and Jordan, saying the strikes represent violations of their sovereignty and a threat to regional security.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its full solidarity with Kuwait and Jordan and its support for measures aimed at preserving their security and stability. Qatar likewise condemned the repeated Iranian attacks on Kuwait and Jordan, calling them a violation of sovereignty, territorial integrity and international law.

Kuwait stresses maritime security
Meanwhile, Chief of the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army Lt. Gen. Khaled Al-Shuraiaan emphasized the importance of safeguarding waterways and ensuring the safety of international navigation amid growing regional security challenges. The Ministry of Defense said Al- Shuraiaan made the remarks while leading the Kuwaiti delegation at a meeting of Chiefs of Staff of the Maritime Defense Coalition to maintain freedom of navigation in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, held in Saudi Arabia. Al-Shuraiaan stressed the need to protect international maritime routes, particularly given current regional developments, and highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination among participating countries.
