TEHRAN, June 15: Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has announced that Tehran and Washington have finalized a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities following months of negotiations, declaring that military operations across all fronts will cease immediately.
In a statement, the council said all military activities, including operations in Lebanon, would end “immediately and permanently” from Sunday night, marking what it described as a major step toward de-escalation.
The council also stated that the naval blockade would be lifted immediately and in full, as part of the initial framework agreement between the two sides.
According to the statement, the memorandum is expected to be formally signed on June 19, with further negotiations on a comprehensive final agreement to begin only after implementation of initial commitments by the other party.
The council expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts of Pakistan and Qatar in facilitating dialogue between Tehran and Washington.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state-affiliated Mehr News Agency reported details of a 14-point draft memorandum of understanding between the two countries, which it said includes provisions for the release of $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets during a 60-day negotiation period.
The draft, which has not been independently verified and has not been officially confirmed by Iranian or US authorities, reportedly outlines an immediate cessation of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon, alongside a US commitment not to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs and to respect its sovereignty.
It also reportedly calls for the lifting of a naval blockade within 30 days, withdrawal of US forces from areas surrounding Iran, and arrangements allowing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz under Iranian oversight during the same period.
According to the report, half of the frozen assets would be made available before negotiations begin, with the remainder to follow during talks on a final agreement.
Officials from neither Tehran nor Washington have publicly confirmed the reported details of the draft memorandum.
