TEHRAN, Apr 20: Iran said on Monday it has no immediate plans to resume negotiations with the United States, citing what it described as Washington’s lack of commitment to diplomacy.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told a press conference that Tehran has not scheduled a new round of talks.
“As I am speaking to you now, we have no plan for the next round of negotiations,” he said.
The remarks come amid growing uncertainty over whether further discussions between Tehran and Washington will take place. Iranian officials accused the United States of repeated ceasefire violations and inconsistent behavior that has eroded trust.
Baghaei pointed to what he described as breaches of agreements related to Lebanon, as well as efforts to impose a naval blockade on Iran, as key factors undermining diplomatic efforts. He also condemned recent U.S. actions at sea, including an alleged attack on an Iranian commercial vessel, calling it a “clear act of aggression” under international law.
“The United States, through contradictory behavior and continuous violations of the ceasefire, has shown it is not serious about pursuing diplomacy,” he said.
He added that Iran would determine whether to re-engage in talks based on its national interests, emphasizing that recent developments have deepened public distrust of U.S. intentions.
