Strait of Hormuz closure could disrupt global oil supply, impact regional stability, experts warn.
TEHRAN, Apr 12: Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy has said it has “full control” of the Strait of Hormuz, while insisting that the vital shipping route remains open to non-military vessels.
According to semi-official Iranian media reports, the IRGC Navy warned that any military vessels approaching the waterway would face a “firm and forceful response,” amid heightened regional tensions.
The statement comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump said the U.S. Navy would begin a blockade of the Strait to prevent ships from entering or leaving the key global energy route.
The developments follow the collapse of negotiations between Iran and the United States held in Pakistan, which ended without agreement on ending the ongoing conflict, further escalating fears of confrontation in the Gulf region.
