TEHRAN, Sep 20:  Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States fulfills commitments under a June agreement and meets Tehran’s conditions.

Addressing parliament, Qalibaf said Iran had “explicitly conveyed its conditions” to Washington through intermediaries, according to Iranian state media. He said there would be no return to previous negotiations or reopening of the strategic waterway until Iran’s rights are recognized and US commitments are implemented.

The June memorandum included commitments related to the lifting of the US blockade, oil sanctions and other measures. The agreement later unraveled amid disputes over its implementation and navigation through the Strait.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key global energy route, and its continued closure has disrupted maritime trade and increased pressure on regional energy supplies.
