TEHRAN, Jul 9: Areas surrounding Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant were struck by projectiles on Thursday, according to a senior provincial official, marking the latest escalation in the conflict.

Ehsan Jahaniyan, deputy governor of Bushehr province, said projectiles fired by the United States hit several locations in the province around midday, Iran's state news agency IRNA reported.

Jahaniyan said areas around the Bushehr nuclear plant were among those struck but did not provide immediate details on any damage to the facility or nearby infrastructure.

The reported strike comes amid continued military exchanges between the United States and Iran, with no independent confirmation of the extent of the damage or casualties.
