TEHRAN, July 17: Iran has rerouted passenger rail services from the southern port city of Bandar Abbas after overnight strikes damaged railway infrastructure in Hormozgan province, while authorities also appealed to the public to conserve electricity following damage to power facilities in the region.
Iran's state railway operator said passengers departing from Bandar Abbas would be transported by bus to Fin, where they would continue their journeys by train until repairs are completed.
According to Iranian media, a railway junction about 10 kilometers west of Bandar Abbas was struck overnight, injuring two people and damaging the station. The junction serves both passenger and freight lines connecting Bandar Abbas with the strategically important Shahid Rajaee Port, one of Iran's busiest maritime gateways.
Separately, the Ministry of Energy urged residents to reduce electricity consumption to help stabilize power supplies after attacks damaged electricity infrastructure in and around Bandar Abbas.
The ministry asked households, particularly in the country's southern provinces, to switch off air conditioners for one hour during peak demand to ease pressure on the national electricity grid as the region grapples with extreme summer temperatures and damage to power facilities.
Officials said electricity has already been restored to some affected areas and power supplies have largely stabilized, but called on the public to continue conserving energy to support the reliable delivery of electricity while repair work continues.
