TEHRAN, March 6 : Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Friday that several countries have launched mediation efforts amid heightened regional tensions, emphasizing that Iran welcomes genuine peace initiatives but will firmly defend its sovereignty.
In a post on the social media platform X, Pezeshkian stated, “Some countries have begun mediation efforts. Let’s be clear: we are committed to lasting peace in the region, yet we have no hesitation in defending our nation’s dignity and sovereignty. Mediation should address those who underestimated the Iranian people and ignited this conflict.”
The president’s remarks came as reports surfaced of Iranian attacks targeting sites in countries regarded as friendly Gulf states—strikes that have raised alarm across the region and drawn calls for restraint from several Arab and international mediators.
Diplomatic sources said that regional powers, including Oman and Qatar, have been engaged in behind-the-scenes efforts to de-escalate tensions between Tehran and its rivals. The situation remains fluid as Iran continues to insist that its military actions were responses to “provocations” and threats against its security.
Observers say Pezeshkian’s message suggests Tehran is open to dialogue but seeks to frame any negotiations on its terms, reinforcing both its resolve and readiness to defend its strategic interests.
