Iran Launches Operation Against US Forces as US Warns of Airspace Closures and Flight Cancellations

WASHINGTON  / TEHRAN, Sep 1: The United States on Tuesday warned its citizens across the Middle East of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions as tensions with Iran escalated following US strikes on Iranian targets.

The US Embassy in Israel said the security environment in the region remained “complex” and warned of the potential for unforeseen escalation. It urged Americans traveling to or from the region to closely monitor airport and airline operations.

The embassy also warned that US diplomatic facilities had been targeted and that Iran and groups supportive of Tehran could target other US interests overseas, including businesses and institutions associated with the United States and Americans.

The warning came shortly after US Central Command announced that American forces had begun striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran.

Meanwhile, Iran said its armed forces had launched a “decisive operation” against US forces in the region. Iran’s IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency reported that American bases and interests across the region were expected to come under Iranian missile and drone attacks.

The latest escalation follows months of heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, with the conflict having begun with strikes on Iran in late February. A framework deal was reached in June through Pakistani and Qatari mediation, but differences over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz later led to renewed confrontation, including a US bombing campaign and the reimposition of a naval blockade.
