TEHRAN, Apr 7: Iran’s nationwide internet disruption has entered its 39th consecutive day, with connectivity restrictions now exceeding 900 hours, according to internet monitoring group NetBlocks.
In a post on X, NetBlocks said the measures have left most users in Iran largely cut off from the global internet, with access reportedly limited to domestic services operating through a restricted national network.
“The measure leaves most Iranians isolated from the global network known as the internet, with only a domestic digital service, or intranet, now available,” the group wrote.
Separately, Iranian authorities said police in the southeastern province of Kerman arrested an individual accused of selling VPN services to more than 300 people, as part of ongoing efforts to restrict access to uncensored online platforms.
A provincial police commander said the suspect operated an organized VPN distribution network across several provinces, allegedly enabling “unauthorized access to social media networks” and communication with what authorities described as “hostile networks.”
He said the network had been dismantled, calling its activities illegal and a threat amid the continuing nationwide internet shutdown.
Iranian authorities have repeatedly taken action against VPN usage as part of broader restrictions aimed at tightening control over internet access and limiting circumvention tools during the prolonged blackout.
