TEHRAN (AP), Mar 30: Iran has finally confirmed the death of a senior naval commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, on 26th March Israel announced that he was killed.
In a statement aired on state television, the Guard said Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri “joined the ranks of Allah due to the severity of his injuries,” following an earlier strike. Israeli authorities had claimed responsibility for the killing last week.
The statement praised Tangsiri’s role in strengthening Iran’s naval capabilities, particularly in maintaining strategic control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.
In a separate development, Iranian authorities executed two members of the exile group Mujahedin-e-Khalq. The men, identified as Akbar Daneshvarkar and Mohammad Taghavi, were hanged on Monday, according to state media and the group.
Amnesty International said the two had been convicted of armed rebellion by Iran’s Revolutionary Court following what it described as a “grossly unfair trial” in October 2024, alleging they were subjected to torture during interrogations.
