NEW DELHI, April 10: The Iranian Embassy in India briefly opened bank accounts in March 2026 to collect donations from Indian citizens, including cash and jewellery, aimed at supporting civilians affected by the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

However, due to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regulations, embassy financial rules, and international sanctions, the collected funds could not be transferred to Tehran. Instead, the donations were intended to be used locally in India for purchasing medicines and humanitarian supplies.

The donation facility, operated through the State Bank of India, was subsequently deactivated. In response, the Iranian Embassy stated on social media, expressing appreciation for public support while confirming the closure of the accounts.

“In appreciation of the commendable support and solidarity of the noble people of India, it is hereby informed that the Embassy accounts previously designated for receiving monetary contributions have now been deactivated. Accordingly, you are kindly requested to refrain from transferring any funds to these accounts or to any other accounts presented as belonging to the Embassy."

The embassy also requested that individuals refrain from sending any further financial contributions following the closure of the facility.
