Iran earthquake caused no casualties in Kuwait – Call 112 in emergency

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 5: Ministry of Interior affirmed that it did not receive any reports of casualties or damages as a result of the earth tremors experienced by some residents in the country on Sunday evening. In a press release, the ministry revealed that it received inquiries about the cause and epicenter of the earthquake, the tremors of which were felt in many parts of the country.

It urged all Kuwaiti citizens and expatriates to contact the emergency hotline No. 112 or the civil defense hotline No. 18 04 000 in case of any emergency. Kuwait National Seismic Network (KNSN) affiliated to Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) announced that the earthquake hit northwest Shiraz city of Iran and measured 5.3 on the Richter scale.

Director of KNSN Dr Abdullah Al-Enezi told KUNA that the people of Kuwait especially those staying near the coastal areas felt tremors at 10:51pm on Sunday, Aug 4. He said epicenter of the quake was registered at a shallow depth of 10 km about 300 km away from Kuwait City According to the Iranian media, no reports of casualties have been received so far. Astronomer Adel Al-Sadoun said the epicenter of the earthquake was in Dogonbadan area between Shiraz and Ahwaz, adding that people in Kuwait especially those living in high-rise buildings felt the tremors. He affirmed that an earthquake of this magnitude is not considered dangerous.
