Iran Doesn't Need Pakistan as Go-Between with U.S., Says Larijani

TEHRAN, Jun 6: Mohammad Javad Larijani has criticized Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf over his recent visit to Pakistan, describing the trip to Islamabad as a mistake that carried a high cost for Iran.

Speaking publicly, Larijani said Iran does not require Pakistan or any other country to mediate negotiations with the United States, arguing that Tehran is capable of engaging directly with Washington if it chooses to do so. While praising Pakistan’s prime minister, he maintained that there was no need for Islamabad to act as an intermediary between the two sides.

Larijani, who heads the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences, also reiterated Iran’s position on its nuclear activities, saying the country would not abandon its nuclear program under any circumstances. His remarks come amid ongoing discussions and diplomatic efforts surrounding Iran’s nuclear file and relations with the United States.
