Iran Detains Prominent Human Rights Lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh With No Explanation

TEHRAN, Apr 2: Prominent Iranian human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh has been detained by authorities without explanation, according to her daughter.

Mehraveh Khandan said in a social media post that Sotoudeh was taken into custody on Wednesday night, adding that authorities also confiscated electronic devices during a raid on their home.

Sotoudeh, a recipient of the European Union’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in 2012, is widely known for her work defending activists and political prisoners, including Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi.
