Iran designates ‘safe routes’ in Hormuz as US says Tehran promises reopening

TEHRAN, Apr 8: Iran has designated alternative “safe routes” for maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz due to potential naval mine risks, according to state-affiliated Student News Network.

The move comes amid heightened tensions in the critical shipping lane, a key artery for global oil supplies.

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance said Iran has promised to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, expressing his intention to be involved in ongoing negotiations, saying he believes he can help advance talks. US Vice President JD Vance said on Wednesday that Tehran’s negotiators thought the US-Iran ceasefire agreed on Tuesday included Lebanon, but Washington had in fact not ‌agreed to that.

The developments highlight ongoing uncertainty over maritime security in the region despite ceasefire efforts.
