Iran denies Najaf flight resumption reports

TEHRAN, Sept 28: Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization on Monday denied reports that flights between Iran and Iraq’s Najaf International Airport had resumed, saying no decision had been made to restart the services.

Spokesman Majid Akhavan said reports claiming that flights between Iranian airports and Najaf had already resumed were false, according to Iranian reports. His comments came after reports earlier Monday said Iraqi Airways had resumed flights between Najaf and Iranian airports.

The dispute comes amid continuing disruptions to Iran’s international air links following new US sanctions targeting the country’s aviation sector. Najaf had been considered an alternative destination for Iran-bound flights after Baghdad restricted Iranian carriers, but flights between Najaf and Iran were subsequently suspended.
