GENEVA, Jun 21: Iran’s negotiating team refused to take part in a planned joint photo opportunity with the US delegation before talks in Geneva, a source close to the negotiations told Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.
According to the source, US officials and organizers had arranged for a handshake and group photo between the two sides before the meeting. However, the Iranian delegation declined to participate, prompting the live broadcast and photo session to proceed without them.
The Iranian team reportedly entered the venue after the photo opportunity ended. The source added that the US delegation requested a five-minute delay to allow reporters to leave the negotiations site before the talks began.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump warned Iran against closing the Strait of Hormuz, according to Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst. Yingst reported that Trump told Iranian officials: “You close it and you won’t have a country.”
Trump also said the United States could take control of the strategic waterway if necessary and collect tolls if no agreement is reached, according to the report. He"You close it and you won't have a country." President Trump said he told Iranian officials about the Strait of Hormuz. He said, "You won't even make it back to your fu*king country." "We may take over the Strait, if we have to," Trump said. "If they don't make a deal, we'll collect tolls." Trump added the U.S. could become the "Guardian Angel" of the Strait, and take 20% of the oil. US President Donald Trump warned Iran to stop what he described as its “highly paid proxies” in Lebanon from “causing trouble,” saying Washington would strike Iran again if they did not.
In a social media post on Sunday, Trump said the United States would hit Iran “very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder,” escalating his rhetoric toward Tehran.
The reported remarks come amid heightened tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for global energy shipments.
