Iran Confirms Killing of Intelligence Minister Ismail Khatib

TEHRAN, March 18: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed the killing of Intelligence Minister Ismail Khatib along with other senior figures in what he described as a “cowardly assassination.”

In a statement posted on X, Pezeshkian said that Ali Larijani and Aziz Nasirzadeh were also killed, along with several members of their families and accompanying personnel.

The president extended his condolences to the Iranian people, describing the victims as key national figures, including cabinet members, senior officials, and military and Basij commanders. He emphasized that their deaths would not deter the country, stating that their path would continue “more steadfastly than before.”

The incident marks a significant escalation amid ongoing regional tensions, with no immediate details provided on those responsible for the attack.
