TEHRAN / ISLAMABAD, Apr 12: Iranian state television has outlined the reasons behind the collapse of recent negotiations with the United States, accusing Washington of attempting to secure through diplomacy what it failed to achieve militarily.
According to the report, U.S. negotiators pushed for Iran to hand over its enriched uranium and to ensure the opening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz without formally recognizing Iran’s sovereignty over it—demands Tehran rejected.
Iranian officials, as cited by state media, said the country would defend its national interests “by military means” if necessary, signaling a hardened stance following the breakdown in talks.
The developments come after marathon discussions between the two sides ended without agreement, raising concerns over renewed escalation in the region.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has called on both parties to preserve the fragile ceasefire. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stressed the importance of restraint, urging Washington and Tehran to avoid further deterioration.
“The parties must continue to uphold their commitment to the ceasefire,” Dar said in an official statement.
He added that Pakistan would continue its diplomatic efforts to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran in the coming days, positioning itself as a potential mediator amid rising tensions.
