BEIRUT, March 21: The Israel Defense Forces said it carried out a series of strikes in Lebanon targeting the Iran-backed group Hezbollah, as tensions continue to escalate along the border.

A military spokesperson had earlier issued a warning to residents in Beirut’s southern suburbs—considered a Hezbollah stronghold—to evacuate ahead of the strikes.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that two neighborhoods in the southern suburbs of Beirut were hit, though details on the specific targets and any casualties were not immediately confirmed.

In southern Lebanon, an Israeli airstrike struck a residential house in the town of Ghandouriyeh, killing at least one person and injuring two others, according to the agency.

Further strikes were reported overnight and into the early morning across multiple areas in southern Lebanon. The agency also described an “extensive combing operation” by Israeli troops near the town of Khiam, indicating continued military activity on the ground.

The developments come amid heightened regional tensions, with fears of further escalation along the Lebanon-Israel frontier.
