TEHRAN, Jun 12: Iran has said it is “never been closer” to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States, while urging the media to avoid speculation over its contents as negotiations continue to take shape.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a post on X that the proposed “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” was at an advanced stage. “The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer. Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content,” he said, adding that all details would be shared publicly once finalized.
Meanwhile, US media reports have outlined a possible framework of a performance-based agreement under discussion. According to Fox News, citing a White House official, Iran would be required to dismantle parts of its nuclear program, destroy or remove nuclear material, and halt funding for regional proxy groups before receiving any sanctions relief.
Separately, Reuters reported that Iran would not receive access to frozen assets until it fully complies with its commitments under the emerging deal, citing a senior Trump administration official.
The reports indicate that the proposed agreement would be strictly conditional, with sanctions relief tied to verified implementation of Iran’s obligations, while final terms are still being negotiated.
