CENTCOM, FLORIDA, (AP), March 23: Iran is increasingly targeting civilian sites in what appears to be a “sign of desperation,” according to Brad Cooper, head of United States Central Command. In an interview with Iran International aired early Monday, Cooper alleged that Iranian forces have deliberately struck civilian targets more than 300 times in recent weeks amid the ongoing conflict.
He also pointed to a noticeable decline in the scale of Iran’s attacks, noting that early phases of the war saw large barrages of dozens of drones and missiles. At the same time, current strikes have been reduced to “one or two at a time,” indicating a potential weakening of operational capacity.
Cooper further claimed that senior Iranian military leaders are sheltering in fortified bunkers around Tehran, while frontline troops remain exposed to sustained U.S. and Israeli airstrikes. Highlighting what he described as a stark contrast, Cooper said top commanders are well-protected, whereas soldiers on the ground are left vulnerable as the conflict enters its fourth week.
