TEHRAN, Jul 8: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused the United States of violating the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Tehran and Washington following US strikes on southern Iran and escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Ghalibaf said Washington had breached the agreement through what he described as actions against Iran and renewed economic pressure.

"Major MOU Violations by the US: Violating Iranian adjustments in the Strait, persistent threats of further strikes, reinstating oil sanctions, attacks on southern Iran, continued Zionist aggression. The era of bullying and extortion is over. It leads nowhere. We don't fold," Ghalibaf wrote.

His remarks came after the United States launched strikes on targets in southern Iran following attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, the Saudi-flagged tanker Wadyan and the Qatari tanker Al Rekayyat were reportedly attacked by Iranian drones while transiting the strategic waterway, further escalating tensions in one of the world's most critical maritime trade routes.

The exchange of accusations and military action has intensified concerns over regional security and the safety of international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
