TEHRAN, Oct 19 : Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of pushing the United States towards another war with Iran to avoid imprisonment, warning Washington that Tehran is prepared to respond if hostilities resume.

In a post on the US social media platform X late Sunday, Araghchi criticised Netanyahu following US President Donald Trump's public endorsement of the Israeli leader ahead of Israel's October 27 parliamentary elections. The remarks were reported by Anadolu Agency and other news outlets on October 18-19.

“Netanyahu is driving America into another war to stay out of jail,” Araghchi wrote, accusing the Israeli leader of disregarding the consequences for Israel and Trump.

“Last time you wanted to ‘finish the job,’ Iran emerged even stronger. Want to try your luck again? Be our guest. But be careful; we have unfinished jobs too,” he added, issuing a pointed warning against renewed military action.

Trump endorses Netanyahu ahead of Israeli elections
Araghchi's warning followed Trump's announcement on Sunday that he was giving Netanyahu his “Complete and Total Endorsement” ahead of Israel's October 27 parliamentary elections.

Trump praised Netanyahu as a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and a partner in confronting Iran, while suggesting that Washington might have to continue military action against Tehran without Israel's current leadership.

“If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Netanyahu thanked Trump for his support, saying the two countries would continue working together.

Iran war remains unresolved
The United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran on February 28, 2026, triggering Iranian retaliatory attacks across the region.

A ceasefire was reached in April, followed by a framework agreement in June aimed at ending the conflict and pursuing a broader settlement. However, the agreement subsequently collapsed amid renewed fighting, and US and Iranian forces exchanged further attacks in September, according to a Congressional Research Service report updated on September 18.

Netanyahu, who has led Israel's government since late 2022, is also facing domestic corruption proceedings. He has denied wrongdoing in the cases against him.
