DOHA/WASHINGTON, May 28: Iran is reportedly looking to “buy time to rebuild its military” amid ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the conflict, even as accusations mount that the United States has violated a fragile ceasefire with recent strikes on Iranian targets.
Tehran has accused Washington of breaching the ceasefire agreement following overnight US strikes that reportedly hit Iranian missile sites and vessels used for laying mines. Iranian officials warned that the country remains prepared to retaliate if further attacks occur.
Despite the escalation, US officials have maintained that a diplomatic resolution remains within reach. Washington has continued to signal that negotiations are progressing, even as military tensions persist on the ground.
According to reports, a senior Iranian delegation in Qatar is currently working on finalising a 14-point framework agreement aimed at bringing an end to the war. However, concerns remain among Western officials that Tehran may be using the talks to delay concessions while rebuilding its military capabilities.
The conflicting narratives underscore growing mistrust between the two sides, as intermittent military exchanges continue alongside diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation.
The latest developments come amid heightened regional tensions and repeated incidents in and around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route that has been severely disrupted by the ongoing conflict.
