India's Adani Enterprises Denies Reports of Plans to Enter Airline Business

NEW DELHI, Jul 24:  Adani Enterprises, the flagship company of Indian billionaire Gautam Adani’s Adani Group, on Friday denied reports that it is planning to enter the airline business, dismissing the claims as unfounded.

In a statement, the company said it is not evaluating any proposal to launch an airline, rejecting recent media reports that suggested the group was considering entering India’s aviation sector.

“The speculation is entirely baseless and factually incorrect,” Adani Enterprises said.

The clarification came a day after reports, citing sources familiar with the matter, claimed the Adani Group was exploring plans to establish a new airline.

Adani Enterprises serves as the principal holding company of the diversified Adani Group, whose businesses span ports, airports, energy, mining, cement and media.

Had the group entered the aviation sector, it would have marked one of the most significant expansions by Gautam Adani, Asia’s second-richest individual with an estimated net worth of $89 billion.

India’s aviation industry has historically been a difficult market, with high operating costs, heavy taxation, intense competition and supply chain disruptions contributing to the collapse of several major carriers, including Kingfisher Airlines, Jet Airways and Go First, over the past 15 years.

The company’s statement puts to rest speculation over a possible move into commercial airline operations, at least for now.
