Indians in Bahrain Rush to Leave Through Charter Flights

MANAMA, Mar 9: EaseMyTrip, a leading Indian travel agency, is arranging chartered flights this week to evacuate Indian families from Bahrain and Qatar amid ongoing regional tensions, pending necessary approvals.

The agency is coordinating with SpiceJet for flights to Mumbai and Delhi from Bahrain, while similar flights from Doha are also planned. Bahrain International Airport remains closed due to the temporary suspension of Bahraini airspace, as confirmed by Bahrain Airport Services Company yesterday.

Online registration forms circulated by EaseMyTrip received over 500 responses within 30 minutes, primarily from Bahrain's Indian community of over 332,000 expatriates. "People are quite anxious... I personally received many calls from families desperate to fly home," co-founder Rikant Pitti told the GDN.

Pitti expressed hope for Doha flights on March 10-11 and Bahrain flights on March 11-12 if permissions are granted. He noted the chartered flights carry a 10% premium to cover risks like cancellations, fully refundable if flights are full.

Since Iranian airstrikes on Gulf states began on February 28, EaseMyTrip pioneered relief flights from Fujairah on March 3, followed by over 100 charters. No official Indian government evacuations have occurred, though thousands have left Bahrain via the operational King Fahd Causeway. Gulf Air has suspended services pending airspace reopening by Bahrain Civil Aviation Authority.
