ROME, Jun 24: A viral video from Italy has triggered a storm on social media after a group of Indian women confronted a Bangladeshi waiter who allegedly hurled profanity-laced and anti-India remarks at them during an outdoor dining incident.

The video, shared on Instagram by Khushi Dubey under the title “This is what happened with us in Italy,” shows a heated exchange between the women and a waiter identified in the clip as Hossain . The confrontation reportedly began after the waiter allegedly used abusive language and made derogatory comments about India and Indian customers.

While it remains unclear what sparked the argument, the video shows the waiter repeatedly using profanity and telling the women to “call the police” as the situation escalated.

“Mind your language. We are ladies first of all,” one of the women can be heard telling him.

The confrontation took a sharper turn when the waiter allegedly made remarks targeting the women’s nationality, including an offensive reference to India.

One of the women responded firmly:
“Mr. Hossain, be respectful. You should know how to respect women.”

As tempers flared, two police officers arrived at the scene and intervened. According to Dubey, the women were relieved by the officers’ presence and grateful for their support.

The waiter then appeared to offer an apology, but the women refused to accept what they felt was a half-hearted response. They insisted that he clearly apologise for abusing India.

“Please say, ‘I’m sorry for abusing India,’” one of the women demanded in the video.

Dubey later wrote that Indians are often unfairly blamed or stereotyped abroad, while discrimination against them is ignored.

“Every time it’s not Indians who are at fault, sometimes it is people who discriminate against us. Always have respect for your country. Jai Hind,” she wrote.

Social Media Backs the Women
The video quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions from social media users, many of whom praised the women for refusing to stay silent.

One user wrote:

“You should have filed an official complaint against him. He deserves to be punished.”

Another commented:

“Girls, salute to you for the way you made him apologise to India. True patriots. Proud of your group of friends.”

A third user questioned why customers should spend money at places where they are disrespected:

“Stop spending your money at places that treat you poorly. There are lots of other restaurants to choose from.”

The incident has reignited debate over discrimination faced by Indian travellers abroad, with many users calling for stronger action against racist or xenophobic behaviour in public spaces.
