Indian student shot dead in Canada, family demands justice

INDIA, April 14: On April 12, a 24-year-old student hailing from Sonipat, Haryana, met a tragic end when he was fatally shot inside an Audi car in Vancouver, Canada. Identified as Chirag Antil, the incident has left his family devastated, prompting calls for justice and repatriation of his body for final rites.

Vancouver Police confirmed the grim discovery, stating that Antil was found dead inside the vehicle following reports of gunfire from residents. As of now, authorities have not made any arrests, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing.

Antil, who had moved from Sonipat to Vancouver on a study visa in 2022 to pursue an MBA, had completed his degree and was employed at the time of the incident.

Expressing their anguish and seeking redress, Antil’s family has reached out to Indian authorities, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. They implore the government to ensure justice for Chirag and facilitate the repatriation of his remains to India.

Ronit, the victim’s brother, recounted speaking to Chirag on the morning of the incident, noting his apparent happiness. However, the sudden and tragic turn of events has left the family in shock and seeking answers. Ronit highlighted their ongoing communication with Canadian authorities, pressing for clarity on the circumstances leading to Chirag’s untimely demise.

Amidst their grief, the family remains in touch with Chirag’s friends, seeking solace and solidarity during this challenging time. As they await developments in the investigation, their plea for justice reverberates, emphasizing the need for swift action and closure in the wake of this tragic loss.
