Indian man kills wife in front of children, attempts suicide

INDIA, Lucknow, Nov 6, (Agencies): In a tragic incident, Aditya Kapoor, a 46-year-old man, fatally stabbed his wife, Shivani Kapoor, aged 43, while their two children, aged 13 and 12, were present, and then attempted to take his own life by jumping from the balcony of their first-floor residential apartment.

The harrowing event occurred on a Sunday and left the accused husband with injuries. He is currently receiving medical treatment while in police custody at the King George Medical University (KGMU) trauma center.

According to Aparna Rajat Kaushik, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Lucknow’s Central district, Shivani and Aditya Kapoor had been married for 14 years. However, they had been living apart for approximately six months due to strained relations.

Shivani, along with their two children, resided in a first-floor flat at Aalya Apartments, while Aditya lived separately in another house in Mahanagar.

The tragic incident unfolded when an inebriated Aditya arrived at his wife’s flat. Initially, Shivani refused to open the door, but she eventually relented when Aditya began demanding to see their children. An argument ensued, escalating to the point where Aditya attacked his wife with a kitchen knife in a fit of rage.

The two children were forced to witness the horrifying scene as their mother was stabbed multiple times. The situation took an even more tragic turn when Aditya jumped from the first-floor balcony, sustaining a head injury.

Other residents of the apartment complex and security guards swiftly apprehended the accused and immediately alerted the police. Upon their arrival, the lifeless body of Shivani was found on the dining table.

Subsequently, Aditya was transported to the hospital for treatment, while Shivani’s body was sent for a postmortem examination. The children provided a detailed account of the entire sequence of events to the police. Aditya Kapoor earned rent from several shops in Aminabad and also worked at his maternal uncle Pappu’s clothing store in the same area.
