NEW DELHI, Feb 18: A high-profile controversy erupted at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 as Galgotias University came under fire for presenting a Chinese-made robotic dog as its own creation, prompting reports that the institution was asked to leave the prestigious event.

At the summit, a professor introduced a four-legged robot dubbed “Orion” at the university’s exhibition stall, implying it was the brainchild of the institution’s AI Centre of Excellence. Within hours, eagle-eyed social media users identified the device as a Unitree Go2, a commercially available robot from the Chinese company Unitree Robotics, sparking widespread online outrage.

The clip went viral almost immediately, exposing the university to global scrutiny and embarrassment at a showcase meant to highlight homegrown technological innovation. Sources say Indian authorities instructed Galgotias University to vacate its exhibition space as criticism mounted.

In an official statement, the university defended itself, insisting it had never claimed to manufacture the robot, explaining that the Unitree device was being used purely as a learning and demonstration tool for students. Galgotias emphasized that its mission is to provide hands-on exposure to advanced AI technologies rather than produce hardware.

The incident has ignited a larger debate about transparency and accountability in tech exhibitions, raising questions over representation and ethics at a time when India is striving to cement its position on the global AI stage.
