Indian Foreign Minister arrives in Kuwait on a bilateral visit

KUWAIT CITY, Jun 10: His Excellency Dr. S. Jaishankar Hon’ble External Affairs Minister, Government of Republic of India, arrived in Kuwait a short while ago today, June 09, 2021. Upon his arrival at Kuwait International Airport, he was received by the Ambassador of India to Kuwait Mr. Sibi George and senior officials of the Embassy of India in Kuwait. From the side of the State of Kuwait, Hon’ble Minister was received by Acting Assistant Foreign Minister Mr Abdul Razzaq AlKhleefa and His Excellency Ambassador Jassim Al-Najjem. The delegation was accorded a warm welcome.


The year 2021-22 marks the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait. Traditionally warm and close bilateral relationship between India and Kuwait is characterized by strong people-to-people connect. There are around one million Indians residing in Kuwait. India is amongst the largest trading partners of Kuwait and Kuwait is a major supplier of oil for India. In recent weeks, to help fight the second wave of COVID-19 in India, Government of Kuwait has been in the forefront to ensure sustained and reliable supply of Liquid Medical Oxygen to India including by establishing an Air/Sea Bridge. Earlier, H.E. Sheikh (Dr.) Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, State of Kuwait, visited India on 17-18 March 2021. Both countries had agreed to establish a Joint Commission at Foreign Ministers’ level during the visit.
